There are tons, and I feel like I’m seeing snakehead get thrown around a lot, so I’ll present you with some other options as well. However, if you’re referring to if they have an actual name that describes fish (as a whole) that look like snakes, the answer is no.

Here are some snake-like fish if that’s what you meant:

Snakeheads:

The one above is a Northern Snakehead, but there are tons of different types – 28 different species currently recognized, actually.

Pike cichlids:

With a similarly large “family” (though not all are related) there are at least 10 species that go under the moniker of “pike cichlids.”

Pike:

There are a few species that fall under the “pike” umbrella term as well, the one above is a Northern Pike.

Ropefish:

OMG are they not just too cute?! They’re also called reed fish and come from the bichir family and, speaking of which…

Bichirs:

Also have a large family (the one above is a Lapradei) I’m unsure how many recognized species there currently are, but I can think of at least 10 off the top of my head.

Dragon Goby:

Despite their monstrous appearance… they’re actually herbivores. Other gobies have similar appearances, more often than not and it’s also – not surprisingly – another large family.

Eels:

Also, again, huge family. The one above is a fire track eel, it gets to be a little over 3′ long.

Lampreys:

You’d probably recognize them a little better from pictures such as this nightmare fuel…

At any rate, more than just snakeheads look snake-like. There are also a few more fringe cases, but they’re a little rarer for people to describe as “snake-like” (mostly because few people know much about them):

Lungfish:

Look at that face! Isn’t it just the derpyest? There are also quite a few species of lungfish.

Knifefish:

Some knifefish, like the Ossa above, look snake-like.

Wolffish:

The above is a picture of the Atlantic Wolf Fish and, by God, those things are mean as all get out. There’s a somewhat similar-looking freshwater version of this terror. There’s also a red wolf fish that looks somewhat like a snakehead.

First off, there are saly and brackish water snakes. Eels are not really snakes but the look like them. They are really good eating with a nice garlic sauce. Snakes are ok but do not have much flavor and they really do taste like chicken.

An eel is a fish. It’s not closely related to snakes at all. Eels are more closely related to all other ray-finned fish than they are to any type of land-dwelling animal like a snake.

The fish you are probably asking about is called a Snakehead. Snakeheads are native to Asia and Africa and they are an invasive species in the United States. They have the ability to crawl across land for some distance from pond to pond or lake so eradicating them from the US has been very difficult. They are voracious predators as adults and eat native US fish and thus compete with native predatory fish species such as the Largemouth Bass. We have spent a lot of time and money trying to eliminate them from Arkansas but they are still around. They are apparently quite good to eat and in some parts of the world they are considered a delicacy. I wish we could eat them all to extinction in the United States.

Can you feed a snake with a fish?

It depends on the snake, and it depends on the fish. Goldfish and rosy-reds shouldn’t be fed to snakes, because they are high in thiaminase, which can lead to thiamine deficiency in the snake. Previously frozen fish also contain inadequate levels of thiamine. So finding the right kind of fresh fish can be challenging.

Garter, ribbon, and water snakes will all readily accept fish, as will many other snakes commonly found in and around water. Snakes that typically eat rodents, such as corn snakes, ball pythons, etc, shouldn’t be fed fish.

Moray eels are amazing. Moray eels are fish, with gills and a long fine dorsal fin connected from its head to its ass. True, morays have lost their pelvic fins and they look quite serpentine but do not let that little alien fool you. When it comes to intelligence, morays have been known to cooperate with another species of fish, the grouper. When a grouper need the moray to investigate something, it will communicate with a wiggle that apparently the moray understands and the moray will go with the grouper to flush out prey where the grouper tell it, again by wiggling. The moray can go in the crooks and crevices while grouper patrols space above, ready to pounce on anything the moray eel flushes out. This kind of communication requires intelligence. Maybe they know each other, have cooperated before. This might even relate to emotional intelligence.

We only learned of this around 2006 and the alien was filmed in 1979. It was Ridley Scott that came up with the idea to make the inner mouth in the alien movable.

The electric eel generates large electric currents by way of a highly specialized nervous system that has the capacity to synchronize the activity of disc-shaped, electricity-producing cells packed into a specialized electric organ. The nervous system does this through a command nucleus that decides when the electric organ will fire. When the command is given, a complex array of nerves makes sure that the thousands of cells activate at once, no matter how far they are from the command nucleus.

Snakehead are an invasive species that is wreaking havoc in Florida. I usually catch and release fish. Not snakehead. I catch them and kill them. They are actually a good flakey white fish to eat.

They outcompete all native fish. In fact, possession of live snakehead is a second degree misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500 fine and/or 60 days in jail. Florida law also makes it a crime for anyone to release any exotic fish into state waters.

Humans are not similar to either of them, but we are closer to snakes as we both are amniotes and have a more recent common ancestor that any of us has with fish.
